Silently Killing My Sewing Machines

My mom recently told me some pointers for sewing machine maintenance that I had not encountered during the last several years of reading sewing blogs. She said that I should clean my machines and oil them every day that I use them. I had been cleaning my serger, but not my regular sewing machine. I certainly hadn't been oiling them. She also said to change my needles after every project. I had previously only changed needles when they broke. Oops. It looks like I need to up my game when it comes to maintaining my machines. I'm passing along these tips since after you hear them, they can seem like common sense. However, until someone mentions them, they might not cross your mind.
